Stabbing Westward is an American industrial rock band. Christopher Hall and Walter Flakus formed the band in 1985 in Macomb, Illinois. The band released an extended play in 1992, followed by four studio albums: Ungod (1994), Wither Blister Burn & Peel (1996), Darkest Days (1998), and Stabbing Westward (2001). The band announced a dissolution on February 9, 2002. Two compilation albums were later released in 2003. Stabbing Westward reunited in 2016 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its formation and continued to perform live shows. The band’s first new album in 21 years, Chasing Ghosts, was released in 2022.

The band Stabbing Westward was formed while Christopher Hall and Walter Flakus were in college together at Western Illinois University. The pair came up with the name when they were working at WIUS-FM, their college radio station. According to them, the name comes from a speech from the 1950s about the nation’s fears that Communism was “stabbing westward.”

In 1985, the band’s original line-up moved to Chicago. This line-up of Stabbing Westward recorded Iwo Jesus, the band’s extended play tape with four songs, and was released in 1991.

Then, in 1993, Stabbing Westward traveled to Eden Studios in London, England to record with producer John Fryer. They ended up recording their debut album with a major label (Columbia Records), Ungod. Ungod was released on the 15th of February in 1994. The album got Stabbing Westward an opening slot on Depeche Mode’s “Exotic Tour” in the summer of 1994. They also opened in North America in the fall of 1994 for Killing Joke. This all helped boost the band’s popularity and get their music out to the world.

Wither Blister Burn & Peel became a huge success in 1996. It got the band their very first certified gold album. This accomplishment was helped by their popular singles “What Do I Have to Do?” and “Shame”. They got the band on MTV, MuchMusic, and the radio on a heavy rotation. Following the album, the band toured with other groups including Sponge.

Eventually, Stabbing Westward went to Los Angeles, California, and began to work on their 1998 album, called Darkest Days. The album was envisioned by the band as a story told in four acts. “Save Yourself” the first single off the album had some success. After the album, Stabbing Westward went on to continue to tour with groups such as Placebo, Monster Magnet, The Cult, and Depeche Mode. They would also go on to play in some summer festivals.

In 2016, however, the band reunited for a charity concert and has continued to play reunion shows since. Also, in May of 2020, the band signed with a new label to release a new album!

No matter how sunny it may be in Broward County, a different energy exists beneath the surface. Each generation it seeps out, either in the area’s shock rock luminaries during the nineties or a bevy of post-Soundcloud rap stars in the twenty-tens. That brings us to The Requiem. The Broward County, FL trio—Damien [vocals], Felipe [lead guitar], and Salem [bass]—piece together elements of alternative, rock, emo, and even eighties into an uncompromising and undeniable vision of what music can be without boundaries. After piling up over 1 million streams independently and stirring up buzz, the group captivate on a series of 2023 singles and more to come.

“We want to represent our generation in the best way possible,” exclaims Damien. “Rock music has lost the sloppiness and the vulgarity it used to have. When you’re young, you need to embrace that attitude and danger. We want to bring all of that back to alternative music.”

The guys initially rallied around this mission back in 2020. Damien teamed up with Salem and Felipe. Together, they nodded to influences as diverse as The Used, AFI, Pierce The Veil, and Finch as well as Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, and Genesis. They gained traction with the independent single “Corpse Party,” reeling in 371K Spotify streams and counting. The band landed a deal with Fearless Records. In the meantime, the musicians continued to write and record.

As an active paramedic, firefighter, and veteran of the war in Afghanistan, Vision Video lead Dusty Gannon has seen more horror in real life than in the classic movies he draws inspiration from. When not saving lives on the front-line, Dusty dons torn fishnets, combat boots and makeup to play post-punk that recalls the genre’s heyday when the lines between goth and pop blurred to create some of the underground’s most beloved acts such as The Cure, The Smiths and Joy Division. But hidden within Vision Video’s catchy hooks and dancy beats is a nostalgic yet desperate message exploring the darker undertones of our existence.

We Were Promised Jetpacks + Breakup Shoes – West Palm Beach – 10/19/22

Heroes Live Entertainment presents We Were Promised Jetpacks with special guests Breakup Shoes on October 19 @ Respectable Street in West Palm Beach. The celebrated Scottish rock band is excited to announce U.S. Fall tour dates in support of their critically-acclaimed album Enjoy the View out now via Big Scary Monsters.

Half bracing post-punk and half tuneful indie pop, We Were Promised Jetpacks formed while they were still attending high school in Edinburgh. Fifteen years into their career, the trio is more focused than ever.

We Were Promised Jetpacks’ tender, delicate poise is still stunning and heartbreaking in equal measure. – Flood Magazine

The frothy melodies, spiraling guitar riffs, and catchy refrains of this newfound aesthetic suits the band well and make Enjoy the View one of the year’s more stimulating aural
experiences. – Under The Radar

Single “Fat Chance” reveals a surprise partway through, emerging as an anthem about overcoming long odds, doing “a complete 180” and climbing out of the ruins, stronger than ever. – NPR Music

Scottish post-punk outfit We Were Promised Jetpacks’ fifth album Enjoy the View is many things at once: A quiet rumination on past relationships, a strain of optimism for the future, an ode to open-road guitar music and a nod to the band’s best-known, angular musicianship and intense live shows. – Atwood Magazine

Since releasing 2018’s ‘The More I Sleep The Less I Dream’, We Were Promised Jetpacks’ Adam Thompson, Sean Smith, and Darren Lackie have embraced change head-on. Amicably parting ways with guitarist Michael Palmer, leaving a notable empty fourth corner in their practice room, it marked a transitory moment in the band’s acclaimed career and one that would be cemented by events to come.

Entering 2020 as a trio with a handful of songs written and a small tour under their belts, the world around them came to a sudden halt. Yet despite the unquestionable hardship that the lockdown brought with it, for a band looking to rebuild following a dramatic change, it also proved to be a blessing in disguise.

“I guess it ended up being a lot more collaborative between the three of us,” Sean notes of their fifth studio record, ‘Enjoy The View’. Unable to meet in person, the album began to take shape across countless files bouncing back and forth between their respective Edinburgh homes. As well as providing the space to think more broadly about their own roles in the band, isolation also allowed them to approach their collective sound in new ways.

“If you’re trying to write a part when two other people are smashing their instruments it’s not the easiest thing,” Adam laughs. “Writing remotely, you could mute parts and work on things in your head. It just gave us a bit more creative freedom to try different things.” For Darren, separated from his kit, drumming became an entirely digital venture. “I could be a bit freer,” he notes, immediately backed up by his bandmates. “It was nice for Darren to have the space to try something he normally couldn’t,” Adam smiles, celebrating the opportunity for the trio to switch up their songwriting process.

With the space to focus on the structure of the songs over what is immediately possible in a practice room, the band shifted gears. “We’ve always considered ourselves a live band more than a studio band,” Darren notes, explaining how the past twelve months have forced a change. “This was more about focussing on making a really great album rather than thinking about how we play it live. Let’s make an album that’s just slightly different for us.”

The result, ‘Enjoy The View’, is also the product of a more settled band. Fifteen years into their career, the trio is more focused than ever. “We are doing this for ourselves and the people who like our music and get something out of it,” Adam gleams, “I’m really excited about being able to show them the new record.”

“I’ve had a really nice time writing this album,” he states matter-of-factly, signaling his appreciation to his bandmates. “We’re all very appreciative of the people who are still listening to us,” Darren adds, “it pushes us to keep getting better”. Nodding to both the band and their ever-loyal fans, Adam agrees. “It is very much our band, and we do this because we can do it together.”

Emerging from the heyday of the Phoenix house show scene, Breakup Shoes’ intimate yet celebratory style derives from their DIY origins as down-and-out college roommates. Their earliest tracks gave a unique expression to the long Arizona summer through a crafty blend of west coast beach rock mellowed out by a bedroom pop charm, which quickly earned a cult following with debut EP Nicotine Dream. Their first full-length record, Unrequited Love (& other clichés), propelled the band to a national audience and earned them gigs with Soccer Mommy, Men I Trust, No Vacation and more. Follow up record So Money, Baby pairs Zawisa’s sweet melodies with a rich production style and brought the band their first full national tour with Summer Salt. Their most recent EP, 2021’s Narratives, finds the band in a smoother, more mature sound that matches Zawisa’s reflective lyrics, yearning for simpler times in complex tones. Breakup Shoes consists of Phoenix locals Nick Zawisa (lyricist/vocalist), Matthew Witsoe (drums), John MacLeod (guitar/bass), and Jake Peña (bass/guitar).

Front 242 **FREE SHOW** Respectable Street 35th Anniversary Block Party – West Palm Beach – 9/17/22

Respectable Street + Heroes Live Entertainment present Front 242 Exclusive Florida Show headlining on Saturday, September 17, 2022 @ Respectable Street 35th Anniversary Block Party at 500 Block of Clematis St in West Palm Beach.

Front 242’s history starts in 1981 when Daniel B. lays out his ideas on the first single: « Body to Body ». Patrick Codenys (keyboards) and Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) join the band for the first album « Geography » in (1982), followed by Richard 23 (vocalist/stage performer) in 1983.

While developing their own independent recording and graphic units, along with a unique presentation on stage, the band progressively reaches a larger audience in Europe, touring and releasing records of its brand new genre they soon label « Electronic Body Music (aka EBM) ».  EBM is a collage and synthesis of music and sounds, recycled from the media or TV, often reflecting or enriched by other artistic disciplines. In 1984, Front 242 signed on the label Wax Trax from Chicago. The EP « Take One » (1984) is their first U.S. release, their success there will be massive.

Gaining experience in large European festivals and U.S. shows from 1985, the band establishes itself as a very powerful live group, and EBM spreads across Europe. The albums « No Comment » (1985), « Official Version » (1987), and « Front By Front » (1988, including HeadHunter and Welcome to Paradise) seal Front 242’s international breakthrough and their status as an innovative and pioneering band.

Front 242’s vision continues to evolve toward fuller maturity after the acclaimed album « Tyranny For You » (1991). The two next albums, « 06:21:03:11 Up Evil » and « 05:22:09:12 Off » (1993) breakthrough the classical Front formula to bring in new vocalists, live guitars, and drums, along with a new producer, Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth). This begins by redistributing roles and rules within the group while retaining the scope of invention and the radical attitude that goes along with Front 242’s music.

During a four year hiatus (1993-1997), the band releases the albums « Live Code », recorded during their last world tour, and « Mut@ge – Mix@ge », a compilation album where The Prodigy, The Orb, Underworld, Rico Conning, and others propose innovative mixes of Front 242 tracks.

The four original members of the band reunited in 1997 and, with German drummer Tim Kroker, start performing live again. Several live albums follow, capturing the energy and reflecting the numerous changes brought in by the versions being performed on stage.

After a long studio absence, the EP « Still & Raw » and the Album « Pulse » come out in 2003. These records are based on aesthetics of the 70’s and ’80s. Here, Front 242 re-creates the original sound that was at the center of its art, enriched by 20 years of experience: analog technologies and vintage machines pulsing into deconstructed tracks where emotion and research are still conveyed by a purely electronic attitude.

Having re-released their back catalog in newer, enriched versions, and breaking from the idea that every live campaign must necessarily be preceded by a new album, Front 242 currently continues playing throughout the world with the same level of intensity, with the same success as ever, followed and cheered by crowds of loyal fans celebrating the band’s uniqueness and renowned integrity.

Nitzer Ebb – West Palm Beach – 11/19/21

Heroes Live Entertainment presents Nitzer Ebb with special guests Alpha Quadrant and DJ Paul Klov @ Respectable Street in West Palm Beach.

Tickets: https://nitzerebb.eventbrite.com

Join in the chant! The British pioneers of EBM return to South Florida!

Britain’s Nitzer Ebb are one of the most influential acts associated with the EBM (electronic body music) scene, as well as alternative dance in general. Since the early ’80s, the group, led by enthusiastic frontman Douglas McCarthy, have produced an aggressive, visceral brand of electronic music influenced by German industrial and new wave groups like Die Krupps and D.A.F. The group remains best known for the classic “Join in the Chant,” a single taken from 1987’s That Total Age that became a staple of dance clubs from Ibiza to Detroit. Subsequent albums such as 1991’s Ebbhead displayed more of an interest in pop songcraft, and found some success on alternative radio. Nitzer Ebb broke up following 1995’s Big Hit, which featured a greater presence of non-electronic instruments, but they reunited over a decade later, as their influence on newer generations of industrial and hard-edged techno artists continued to grow. After Industrial Complex appeared in 2010, Nitzer Ebb went on hiatus again, but they re-formed with all of their founding members in 2018 for a tour and retrospective box set.

Formed in Chelmsford, Essex, in 1982 by vocalist Douglas McCarthy, drummer Bon Harris, and keyboard player David Gooday, the group began experimenting with synthesizers and drum pads, fusing the bandmembers’ affinity for dark goth and punk rock with the emerging technology. A demo cassette titled Basic Pain Procedure appeared in 1983. After several popular shows around London during 1984, PWL producer Phil Harding began working with Nitzer Ebb and recorded their first single, “Isn’t It Funny How Your Body Works,” which appeared on the band’s Power of Voice Communications label in 1985. Three more singles followed during 1985-1986 before Nitzer Ebb signed to Mute in late 1986; the first Mute recordings were the singles “Murderous” and “Let Your Body Learn” in early 1987, just before the release of their debut album, That Total Age. After the single “Join in the Chant” was remixed by producer Flood (Nick Cave, Erasure), it became one of the crucial tracks in the growing alternative/Balearic dance scene, played out alongside Chicago house, Detroit techno, and Northern soul.

After the release of That Total Age, Nitzer Ebb toured Europe with Depeche Mode, and the latter band’s pop sensibilities appeared to inspire them. By the time of their second album, Belief, Gooday had disappeared (to be replaced by Julian Beeston) and Flood had taken over the producer’s role from Harding, nudging Nitzer Ebb closer to the dancefloor and shearing away the militaristic bent of much of their earlier recordings. Singles like “Hearts and Minds,” “Shame,” and “Lightning Man” were loaded with the cold aggression of earlier recordings, working well on dancefloors as well as college radio stations; the 1990 single “Fun to Be Had” even reached number two on the dance charts. The following year’s Ebbhead further consolidated their position with alternative audiences, with at least two well-known singles, “I Give to You” and “Godhead.”

Nitzer Ebb virtually disappeared from active music-making for the next four years, finally reappearing in 1995 with their fifth (and least industrial-sounding) album, Big Hit. The group became inactive, but McCarthy became a regular collaborator with Alan Wilder’s Recoil project, and formed the duo Fixmer/McCarthy with techno producer Terence Fixmer. The compilation Body of Work 1984-1997 appeared in 2006 and was immediately followed by set of new remixes titled Body Rework. After a reunion tour to support the releases proved successful, the group began working on new material. In January of 2010 they released Industrial Complex, their first studio album in 15 years and their first for the Alpha Matrix label. Nitzer Ebb then toured with Die Krupps, issuing the joint EP Join in the Rhythm of Machines in 2011. The following year, Basic Pain Procedure was reissued by Pylon Records.

Box Set [1982-2010] was released in 2018, containing double-LP reissues of Nitzer Ebb’s five albums for Mute, as well as empty slots for their other two full-lengths, which remained in print. Additionally, the band’s original lineup began performing for the first time since 1987.

Eyehategod: A History of Nomadic Behavior Tour + Ether Coven + Seven Serpents – West Palm Beach – 10/24/21

Heroes Live Entertainment presents EYEHATEGOD with Ether Coven and Seven Serpents @ Respectable Street in West Palm Beach.

Tickets: https://eyehategod2021.eventbrite.com

New Orleans’ EYEHATEGOD is the snarling, bilious sound of dead-end America. Since 1988, they’ve been a soundtrack for the troubled masses. Ugly music for ugly times. That’s the sense of disenchantment and disease that lies at the heart of their latest and sixth full-length album, A History of Nomadic Behavior. Anyone familiar with EHG’s story knows this is survivor’s music, a sound unto itself where Sabbathian riffs are meted out with caustic anger that goes beyond punk. That’s been the blueprint since guitarist Jimmy Bower (also of NOLA supergroup, Down) founded the band in 1988 with vocalist Michael IX Williams joining not long after. With a discography including sludge-punk mainstays like In the Name of Suffering (1990), Take as Needed for Pain (1993) Dopesick (1996), or 2014’s eponymously-titled LP, released in the US through Housecore Records, EHG laid the cracked foundation for their infamous and influential sound. A History of Nomadic Behavior finds the band, now slimmed to a four-piece rounded out by bassist Gary Mader and drummer Aaron Hill, leaner and meaner than ever; road-hardened by recent tours with Black Label Society, Corrosion of Conformity and Napalm Death in the US, and abroad. From the bitter pill of opener “Built Beneath the Lies” to the hypnotic haze of closer “Every Thing, Every Day” it’s clear that EYEHATEGOD hasn’t slowed or mellowed with time. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. This is disorienting, uneasy listening. Music that still very much hurts.

“The quintessential Southern sludge band” – PITCHFORK

“This [is] a band built on a narrative about doing the opposite of what it thought people wanted: playing slow and messy music in a fast and virtuosic time, the 1980s speed-metal moment.” – NY TIMES

“…True musical pioneers in every sense of the word.” – THRASHER MAGAZINE
