EndSerenading was the second, and final album released by Mineral. It was the definitive statement by the Austin, TX based band. So final, in fact, that the band members had actually gone their separate ways prior to the album’s release in 1998.

What ended in 1998, actually began four years earlier, in Houston, TX, when friends Christopher Simpson (guitar/vocals), Jeremy Gomez (bass), Gabriel Wiley (drums) and Scott McCarver (guitar) formed the band Mineral. Mineral launched into touring immediately, often alongside other indie bands like Jimmy Eat World, The Promise Ring, Texas is the Reason, Knapsack, Braid, and The Get Up Kids, garnering them a legion of fans from the outset.

Eventually the band relocated to Austin, TX and a debut single, Gloria b/w Parking Lot, on Caulfield Records followed, as did more touring. Via a zine editor in Colorado, the single found it’s way to Jeff Matlow at crank! A RECORD COMPANY, which eventually led to an album deal and the release of The Power Of Failing in 1996.

Upon the release of the first album, Mineral quickly emerged as one of the leaders in the burgeoning indie / emo music scene. College radio loved the record. The press gushed about the band. It was inevitable that the major labels would come calling. Interscope Records eventually won the major label beauty contest and signed the band.

Such were the circumstances when the band went into Big Fish Studios in San Diego, California with Mark Trombino (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World) to record one final record for crank! A RECORD COMPANY. EndSerenading was the result. The songs for the record had not come easily, nor did the recording of them. But the album was strong, emotional and daring. It was a Mineral album.

And then it was over. The perfunctory “creative differences” statement was issued. The album was released and new bands were formed. Christopher and Jeremy went on to form The Gloria Record and Gabe founded Pop Unknown.

In a short amount of time, Mineral’s poignant dynamics combined with impassioned lyrics about coming of age was influencing bands everywhere, and still inspires new bands in the indie scene today.

2019 marks the bands 25th anniversary.

Tancred is the stage name of former Now, Now guitarist Jess Abbott.

As Tancred, Abbott has released three full-length albums to date. Her first album, titled Capes, was released in 2011 on No Sleep Records. In 2013, Abbott signed to Topshelf Records and released her self-titled second full-length album. In 2016, Abbott signed to Polyvinyl Records and released her third full-length album titled Out of the Garden. On March 27, 2018, she premiered her new single Reviews and announced an album, Nightstand, to be released on June 1, 2018 via Polyvinyl.

Out of the Garden was recorded by OFF!’s Steven McDonald and That Dog.’s Anna Waronker, and was praised by many outlets, including NPR Music, which declared: “Out of the Garden is just phenomenal… this to me feels like a breakthrough.”

A video for Tancred’s song “Pens” was handpicked for NPR Music’s “Songs We Love” series and featured a cameo by Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz.

Tancred has toured with Foxing, Julien Baker, Weaves, and Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas, and also performed at the 2016 Riot Fest.

Pohgoh
 
Twenty-one years is a long time between albums.
 
Since calling it quits in 1997, Tampa, FL’s Pohgoh has been known to break out the guitars for the occasional one-off reunion over the years. The last one reignited a missing passion and desire to write and perform music together. Susie Ulrey (vocals, guitar), Matt Slate (guitar), Keith Ulrey (drums) and new bassistBrian Roberts (Hankshaw, Murder Suicide Pact) spent the last couple of years hunkered down in their practice space revisiting the old material while hashing out fresh ideas.
In August 2017 the band made their way to Baltimore, MD’s Magpie Cage Recording Studio to record their sophomore full-length with engineer/producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines). The result is Secret Club, Pohgoh’s first full-length since 1997’s posthumous In Memory Of Bab, consisting of songs dealing with life as a band after almost 20 years apart and Susie’s 15+ year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
 
Diagnosed in 2001, Susie’s lyrics touch on the hardships and struggles of living with the disease including, but not limited to, a constant worry of being a burden to others (“Business Mode”), years of chemical and drug therapies (“Super Secret Club”) and a simple nightly fight pleading with her own legs to remain still (“Who’s The You”). The album does have its ‘light in the darkness’ moments, too, with songs about the direction of the reunited band (“Try Harder”) and the sheer power of positive thinking (“Bunch”), of which she declares “I lose battles, but I win wars.” All of this set to a backdrop of crunchy Superchunk-y guitars, even as they visit the more downtempo moments of reflection throughout the 11 tracks.
 
With a rich history within the 90’s DIY/indie/emo scene, Pohgoh was in a small league of female-fronted bands of the era alongside peers like Rainer Maria, Dahlia Seed & Jejune. The band’s previous catalog includes several singles, a split 7″ with Braid, the closing track on the Emo Diaries, Vol. 1 and the aforementioned full-length.
Secret Club is out now on CD/LP/Digital via New Granada Records (US), Barely Regal Records (UK/EU) and Waterslide Records (Japan).

Jack Dangers is the composer and sound sculptor behind Meat Beat Manifesto. His constantly evolving musical invention has generated a long string of futuristic classics, like “Psyche Out,” “Helter Skelter,” “Radio Babylon,” “Edge of No Control” and “It’s The Music.” The single, “Prime Audio Soup,” from the Meat Beat Manifesto album Actual Sounds and Voices, was featured in the sci-fi fantasy blockbuster, The Matrix and on its platinum-selling soundtrack.

An acknowledged innovator in the electronic music scene, Jack Dangers continues to stretch sonic boundaries and influence new generations of sound activists. Otto von Schirach is an IDM and breakcore artist from Miami, Florida (USA), active since 1998. He is of Cuban/German descent. His style is more sporadic and noisy than other artists in the genre, and his visual aesthetic leans on the heavy metal side rather than electronic.

He has released most of his work on the Schematic and Beta Bodega labels, and was featured in the 2002 documentary Electro-Dziska. Otto’s live performances include outfits, masks and props, and he has toured with the band Skinny Puppy. He is also credited on the Skinny Puppy albums The Greater Wrong Of The Right and Mythmaker. In 2011 he has toured U.S.A. with Atari Teenage Riot.

He also does a large amount of work in the areas of music production and remixing and has collaborated with several artists such as Modeselektor on their records Happy Birthday! and Monkeytown. Recently von Schirach has become increasingly involved with the Miami Bass Warriors, a Miami Bass focused project with Jose el Rey, El Tigre and Debbie D from Avenue D. Their debut video, “Going Back to Calle 8,” was featured on Pitbull’s show La Esquina.

Producer, mixer and Grammy-winning reggae dub artist, Lee “Scratch” Perry has been overturning tradition and confounding conventional wisdom for more than five decades. In the process, the widely acknowledged father of dub reggae became arguably the first creatively driven “artist-producer” in modern recorded music. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Perry on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
 
Born in Jamaica in 1936, Lee Perry began in the music business in the 1950’s and by the 1960’s became known for his innovative production techniques as well as his eccentric character. His first single “People Funny Boy” in 1968 was notable for its innovative use of sampling as well as a fast, chugging beat that would soon become identifiable as “reggae”. Concurrent with his own releases with the Upsetters, Perry produced numerous reggae artists at his Black Ark studio, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Heptones, and Max Romeo.
 
After his famed Black Ark Studio was consumed by fire, Perry took refuge in England and the U.S., performing live and making records with collaborators from a wide range of musical genres, all artists who had been inspired by his innovative work: British dub producers Adrian Sherwood and Mad Professor, punk legends The Clash and Public Image, rap innovators the Beastie Boys, and in recent years the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, Funkadelic’s George Clinton, rocker Andrew W.K., electronic artists like The Orb, and of course NYC bass music specialists Subatomic Sound System who back in 2007 collaborated with Dubblestandart on Scratch’s first dubstep remixes.
 
For over six years in the USA, Subatomic Sound System has been Scratch’s go to band for bringing his Black Ark Studio sound live to the stage, a unique hybrid configuration that brings together a handful of live musicians like veteran Jamaican percussionist Larry McDonald with computers and live dub mixing of classic recordings as well as brand new sounds Scratch hears from outer space. Lee “Scratch” Perry, now into his sixth decade as a pop-music provocateur, has few peers when it comes to fresh ideas and their implementation. He remains one of the world’s most imaginative sonic architects.

Few artists have as devoted a fan base (“Juggalos” as they call themselves) and are as roundly dismissed by critics as Insane Clown Posse, the Wayne, Michigan, rap-metal duo of Violent J (a.k.a. Joe Bruce) and Shaggy 2 Dope (a.k.a. Joey Utsler). Still, ICP’s longevity and marketing acumen have brought a success even their detractors must acknowledge.

Originally, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope were part of a rap quartet called Inner City Posse, which formed in 1988; when the group broke apart, Insance Clown Posse took its place in the local firmament. Their debut, 1992’s Carnival of Carnage, introduced the group’s new sound, which mixed harder rock elements among the beats and rhymes and its essential pose (clowns in full make-up anticipating the apocalypse, basically). But despite a steady stream of albums that sell well to the group’s surprisingly large core, ICP’s main draw is its live show featuring all manner of sideshow shenanigans, including pyrotechnics and the liberal tossing of Faygo soda onto a willing audience.

With a growing fan-base, 1994’s The Ringmaster sold well, eventually going gold, and led to the band signing with Jive records for 1995’s The Riddle Box. The band jumped to Hollywood Records for 1997’s The Great Milenko (Number 63) which helped propel ICP into the national spotlight; Hollywood’s pulling the album off shelves due to questionable lyrical content gave the album an even further push as the burgeoning nü-metal audience couldn’t wait to hear what all the fuss was about. Island eventually issued the disc. The band began making headlines but not so much for their music but thanks to a road accident (Violent J suffered a concussion), fights with their own audiences and at an Indiana Waffle House, and a panic attack onstage in Minneapolis (J’s).

By 1999, when the group issued The Amazing Jeckel Brothers, it had enough clout to debut at Number Four on the Top 200, and like Kiss before them, they began merchandising like crazy: multiple CD covers, a movie (Big Money Hustlas, which bypassed theaters for video), comic books, even part-time careers as professional wrestlers for both members, as well as appearances in a pair of wrestling video games. The group closed out the initial run of its ‘Dark Carnival’ series of albums with Shangri-La and Hell’s Pit, with the former album proclaiming that they had been leading their fans to God the whole time. ICP’s profile has shrunk in recent years (they’ve gone back to indie labels and tour in less high-profile a fashion), but their fan base remains as loyal as their 2007 release the The Tempest, which debuted at Number 20 on the Top 200, proved.

R.A. Thorburn, better known by his stage name R.A. the Rugged Man, is an American rapper. He began his music career at age 12, building a reputation locally for his lyrical skills. After a nine-label bidding war for his services, R.A. signed to major label Jive Records at age 18. Eventually R.A. and the label parted ways. His first album, Night of the Bloody Apes, was never released.

Since then, he has worked with the likes of Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, Kool G Rap, and Notorious B.I.G, as well as producers Erick Sermon, Trackmasters, DJ Quik, The Alchemist, J-Zone, and Ayatollah. He was featured on all three of Rawkus’s Soundbombing albums, as well as the platinum-selling WWF Aggression album. After a brief stint on Capitol Records (during which he recorded another unreleased album, American Lowlife), R.A. signed with independent label Nature Sounds and released his official debut, Die, Rugged Man, Die. In 2013, R.A. released his second album, Legends Never Die. The album was released on April 30, 2013 by Nature Sounds.

Way more than just a rock/rap fusion outfit, Web Three Music is its own genre. It’s a “work hard, party hard” ethos mixed with social commentary, hard-hitting beats, live instruments, witty lyrics, and an undertone that urges listeners to be themselves. Web Three is “Do You” music, blending genres from hip hop to rock, with a touch of electro and soul. Web Three’s name derives from his initials. Born William E. Bachelor III, Web is a charismatic rapper who is a self-described one-man mosh pit of style and a hip-hop fiend. He blends a natural gift for verse with a “f— it” attitude, making him the MC that stands out in a field of regurgitating one-offs. Equally important is his supporting cast. The incessantly joking Dita Von Bloom functions as the band’s hype man and second vocalist. Mike Dickson, the band’s guitarist, brings live instrumentation and adds energy to the already amped-up shows. Demonic theatrics are embodied by Ratt. The soft-spoken DJ Needlez runs the sequencing and turntables during the live show.

The lyrical flow has variety and is effortless. The music is firm and thick. The entire sound is full yet rageful. The complementary releases of the harder album “Do You,” and the more introspective “Loss, Love, and The New Normal” featuring Kaaren Styles, taken together present a complete range of talent that showcases the true depth of Web Three.

Front 242’s entire history was clearly defined from the start when, in 1981, Daniel B. laid out his ideas on the first single : Body to Body. Following the recruitment of Patrick Codenys-keyboards, and Jean-Luc De Meyer-vocals in 1982 for the first album GEOGRAPHY. In 1983, Richard 23 joins and completes the band as stage performer and vocalist.

A year later, the project / band developed and quickly reached a specialised audience in Europe. Successive tours and records are logical conclusions of the same concept of electro induced energy music. At the same time, the band already provided for its needs by having their own recording and graphic units. Wax Trax! from Chicago is interested in Front 242; they sign what will be their first US release : the EP “Take One” (1984)

In 1985, the band played for the first time in large European festivals and flew to the US for some dates. They were soon tagged as a very powerful live group, and this form of music continues to spread across Europe under the monitor of “Electronic Body Music” which is the term Front 242 used to described the music they have invented. It is a collage, a synthesis of music and sound, recycled from the media or TV; and Front’s own interpretation of other artistic disciplines.

1988 saw the release of “ Front By Front ” (including Headhunter and Welcome to Paradise) which placed the band onto most of the covers of the European rock press, and made Front 242 a well-known name in the United States via the Wax Trax! record label.

Front’s vision continued toward fuller maturity. The world drastically changed since 1991’s “ Tyranny For You“ album, and the members of the group moved with it. The two albums, “ 06:21:03:11 Up Evil “ and “05:22:09:12 OFF “ broke through the classical Front formula to bring in new vocalists, live guitars and drums. Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth) was called in to mix the album in Front’s studio. Released in 1993, the project showed the scope of radical invention and attitude, that goes hand in hand with Front 242’s music. These releases also allowed them to enjoy the wider reaches a major label could offer, including a summer on the 1993 Lollapalooza tour.

Taking a two year sabbatical didn’t stop Front from moving. It enabled them to realize two attractive CD’s: “Live Code”, recorded during their last world tour, brings to the forefront the power of the group’s live performance and sound and “Mut@ge – Mix@ge”.

The compilation-album “Mut@ge-Mix@ge” proposed The Prodigy, The Orb, Underworld, Rico Conning, and Front 242 all on the same record. More than a “remix” album, all the tracks, enriched by the innovative mixes of the other artists involved, and each dealing with different levels of technology, have been reedited in a specific order by Front 242 to provide a successful continuity of enveloping atmospheres and rhythms.

After a long absence, they releasesd the EP “Still & Raw” and the Album “Pulse”. Based on an aesthetic from the 70’s and 80’s, when the roots of todays electronic music were influenced by German bands , Front 242 re-invented their original sound that was at the center of their art and enriched by 20 years of experience. Analogue technologies and vintage machines pulsing into deconstructed tracks where emotion and research leads to a purely electronic attitude. The band toured the states in 2005 before disappearing from the US… until the legendary Wax Trax Retrospectacle concert brought them back in 2011.

Now, after several side projects and European tours, Front 242 are spending the year performing all over the world for their “CIRCLING OVERLAND 2017 TOUR, including the 12-date North American leg in September and October.

A leading proponent of the classic Chicago house and Detroit techno sounds.

Bill’s introduction to the dance music scene began in Miami during the mid eighties. Armed with a fake ID he would frequent local clubs and after hour spots in town. It wasn’t until Bill landed a job at Flamingo Record Pool (run by Bill Kelly of WMC fame) that he discovered house music. Bill remembers when promos with house & acid mixes started arriving from Chicago. He felt so in tune with what was happening that he needed to be there. He finally made his move in 1988 after frequent visits. Shortly after he began to play clubs and loft parties around the city. His first residency was at the “Shelter Nightclub” w/ Johnny Fiasco. He later moved to “The Vault” with Derrick Carter & Mark Farina, as well as “Normandy’s” with Ralphie Rosario. He currently frequents clubs like Panorama Bar in Berlin and also plays at other select destinations around the world.

His studio work began with a remix of Kay Ladrae’s “Lack Of Love” with Vince Lawrence & Karr Krash on Demand Records. More of his earlier production work can be found on labels such as Trax, Relief, & Clubhouse just to name a few.
Bill has recently created a buzz with “ U Won’t C Me ” which has been licensed four times this year, as well as a re-release of his Acid House classic “Take Me Back” (featuring a Ricardo Villalobos remix). Upcoming releases include remixes of Kiddy Smile – Teardrops In The Box on Defected records, an EP of unreleased material on Crimes Of The Future, as well as a string of releases that are due out this spring.

Nina Belief is a solo female electronic act based in Miami, focusing on the genres of minimal synth and dark electro. The Iranian born Tushna Pirrongelli originally began making music in 2004 with no prior knowledge or training. After discovering the world of analog synthesizers and drum machines, she began making music under the duo act Ronin/Kernkrach Records. The project eventually halted in 2008 and gave way for her to focus a solo music path.

In 2009, she released her first 10” LP with Genetic/No-em-blanc titled “System of Belief” containing the track Identity Crisis. In 2013, she released her first full length LP “Shivers” also on No-em-blanc records. A one off 7″ was also released on Flexiwave. Tushna has also been involved with several side projects including works with ADN Ckrystall, The Faceless 50 (with Geert Coppens of Twighlight Ritual), 65 Roses (unreleased to date) and Equinoxious.

Lately, she’s been clawing her way through the underground live circuit, always playing with an all analog setup of synthesizers and drum machines.

An Evening With Draco Rosa showcases a softer side of the multiple-time GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winning musician’s repertoire. The intimate tour will unveil new tracks from his forthcoming project.

Draco Rosa, aka Robi Draco Rosa, or simply Draco, is a multiple-time Grammy and Latin Grammy winning American-born Puerto Rican musician, singer, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, record producer and entrepreneur.

Born in Long Island, NY, Draco was raised surrounded by an eclectic mélange of musical tastes: from his mother’s affinity to the rock of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who and the funk-ridden R&B of the seventies, to his father’s propensity toward salsa—not just any salsa, but, as Rosa puts it, “the dark, aggressive kind.” At a young age, his family moved him to Puerto Rico, where he became a member of the increasingly popular band Menudo in the 1980s.

After leaving the band he moved to Brazil where he released two albums, achieving mainstream success. Afterwards he moved to California and formed the band Maggie’s Dream, which split after only one album, allowing him to resume his solo career. The singer and composer has released several studio and experimental albums, and has composed/produced multiple songs for major artists.

In 1996 he released the critically acclaimed Latin alternative rock album Vagabundo produced by Phil Manzanera, just before helping launch Ricky Martin’s musical career into a new global setting with the album “Vuelve”. Rosa wrote and produced various of Martin’s hit singles including “Maria”, “Living La Vida Loca”, “La Copa De La Vida”, “She Bangs”, among many others.

Phantom Vox Studios, Rosa’s own multi-media recording studio worked as Music Supervisor for Livin’ the Life, an independent movie that won the Best Film Award in the 1999 New York Latin Film Fest. The studio filmed and edited the video for “Commitment #4,” a track Draco composed and recorded in dedication to the freedom of the island of Vieques, a municipality of Puerto Rico.

In April 2011, Rosa was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. This kept Rosa in a hiatus for a few years until his return in March 2012, when he started recording his award winning album “Vida” along side artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Rubén Blades, Enrique Bunbury among others. In December 2012, he was declared cancer-free. After a very successful “Vida” tour in 2013, on December 9, 2013, his cancer had relapsed and was later overcome, becoming cancer free once again after a second (alogenic) bone marrow transplant.

Taking some time off to ground himself in his native Puerto Rico, Draco took advantage of this new awakening to write “El Secreto de La Vida A Base de Plantas” , with friend and renown nutritionist Nina Niessen. The book became an Amazon.com Top Seller in 2015, and a must read in Alternative Medicine literature. Also, Phantom Vox, his legendary recording studio, was relocated from Los Angeles to his 100 acre estate in Puerto Rico, ‘Hacienda Horizonte’, where his coffee brand “Café Horizonte” became a premium export brand, acknowledged among national and international coffee growers.

In recent months, Draco created a new local coffee brand in Puerto Rico called “Draco Rosa 100% Cafe de Puerto Rico” which directly impacts the local economy by increasing employment on the island and contributing to the growth of local coffee farming. He also created the Vox Forte Alliance, a foundation that strives to educate, create awareness and give support to stem cell transplant patients. He also sponsors the island’s Museo de Arte, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, and set up an annual scholarship for outstanding students at Puerto Rico’s Music Conservatory.
